I think you can fo...Hi Dahn, thanks for commenting!
I think you can follow the outline I presented, you should be able to get through a bunch of choruses in 10 minutes.

Focus on the sound of the interval over each chord in the key, paying attention to what is happening (e.g., singing Eb in the key of Eb, it's the 1 of the key but if we're on a II7 chord so it is also the b7 of the chord).

Don't try to get through all the intervals at once, part of the point is to hear how much you can do with just a handful of notes and without going outside the key. Gradually work up to the full chromatic range. The more comfortable you get, the more time you can spend just singing improvisations and less focusing on individual intervals.

You might want to try this over a variety of different chord progressions as you progress.Jazz Oudhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17152006934973365322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591309280214241435.post-46662342343248842902013-01-02T17:37:38.234-06:002013-01-02T17:37:38.234-06:00Nice exercise! The only exercise that I know of that I felt was helpful is to try breathing in sharply and immediately singing a note loudly; I don't know why, but it seems to help in avoiding tension and helping find your natural voice. It's not how you should sing normally, it's just an exercises.

Otherwise, I recommend singing along with a drone as much as possible.Jazz Oudhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17152006934973365322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4591309280214241435.post-7563439369000579712012-10-29T16:45:15.529-05:002012-10-29T16:45:15.529-05:00Hi. It's so easy to visualize the board now that I've a point of reference.

Piano players, and bass players, commonly use the almighty 5th interval. Its common use results in feeling a 5th beneath the hands without requiring a visual reference.

Using your graph as a guide it child's play to see the 5th standing at the 4th marker at the 7th fret, and doing so all the notes above the 5th automatically take on their respective interval names.

Between the 5th @ the 7th fret and the octave at the 12th fret is but another commonly used interval, that of a 4th, i.e. B-E, thus visualizing the remainder of the fretboard has the exact order and visual reference as visualizing the piano.

I can't thank you enough for this graph!

GregAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
